While the flashback sequences from Film of Five Rings have some humor in them, overall, the final version of the entire movie will have a dark and serious tone. The movie incorporates the philosophies of Musashi Miyamato, the legendary 17th century master swordsman. His book, The Book of Five Rings, is packed with rich philosophies and strategies to defeat one's opponent in battle. This movie will incorporate the philosophies and strategies into the main story and action scenes.


STORY


Elizabeth married at 18 and became a widow at 19. Her husband, Robert, was a victim of a murder-robbery. She remains in shock for four years. Now 23 years old, she's trying to put her life back on track by pursuing her dream to become a mystery novelist.

One day, a man known as Pochi (named after a Japanese dog) gives Elizabeth a call. He attended her wedding five years ago but he was Robert's friend and not hers. He asks to speak with Robert, only to discover he passed away four years ago. Pochi informs Elizabeth of his bad health and is dying. He states since he can't leave his assets to Robert, he wants to leave it to her.

As Elizabeth and Pochi start exchanging notes about the circumstances of Robert's death, they conclude there's no way he was a victim of murder-robbery. Elizabeth, being a highly intlligent woman, needed a catalyst and some undiscovered clues to jump start an investigation of her own. Pochi ends up providing what she needs and she later finds herself in the middle of a conspiracy. Her investigations lead to various physical confrontations, which make her conclude she'll need to learn how to fight if she's going to survive looking for answers.

During her physical combat training, she doesn't just learn how to physically take down opponents. She is trained by the most vicious combat philosopher of this era, which results in her becoming an even more merciless warrior than the villains who murdered her husband.
